The busiest concert bills, the newest expansion project, and a growing share of the live-music calendar have quietly drifted inland this season, and the shift is visible if you know where to look.
This is a field guide for people who already live here. No "discover Smith Mountain Lake" energy. Just what's open, what's new, and what's worth planning around before Labor Day.
The venue gravity has shifted inland
The single biggest story in Moneta's 2026 social calendar is happening a short drive from the water. Wind Vineyards, just north of Bridgewater Plaza, is expanding into a tasting room, restaurant, and events space expected to open mid-to-late summer, building on two years of momentum from concerts and events at the site. That's a category change for a property that used to be primarily a wine stop.
The concert booking backs it up. Wind Vineyards has hosted an Aaron Tippin concert on August 1, 2026, followed by an 80's tribute night with The Deloreans on August 8, and an inaugural Christian Fest on August 16 headlining Grammy Award winning Grand Ole Opry member Rhonda Vincent. Add the annual Wine, Balloons and Tunes weekend featuring wine tastings, live music, balloon rides, and family activities, and you have a venue programming national-touring acts on ground that was pasture a few seasons ago.
Meanwhile, one of the most reliable lakefront patios is going dark for the year. Bottles & Bites at Mariners Landing will not reopen for the 2026 season; owner Tiffany Silva is shifting focus to Tiff's Lakefront and Bruno's Clubhouse Bistro, where much of the live music and game nights that guests loved will continue on those patios. The SML Wine Festival at Bernard's Landing Resort brings together Virginia wineries, food vendors, and live music for tastings and entertainment in an outdoor, family-friendly setting, and it remains the anchor of the shoulder-season weekends when the boat traffic starts to thin.
For dancers, Ramulose Ridge Vineyards runs its Summer Social Dance Series one to two times per month rain or shine, with outdoor and indoor dancing available and a structured dance lesson that does not require a partner. That is a rarer format than the guitar-and-taps circuit and worth putting on the calendar if you have been meaning to try something different.
Downtown Moneta, after the food-truck bloom
Downtown Moneta has spent the last two years leaning into small, mobile food. The bellwether was Curbside Coffees & Cravings, a Downtown Moneta food trailer that opened in 2025 to rave reviews serving specialty coffee drinks, teas, sweet treats, grilled sandwiches, and wraps. That trailer's future is now a live question. At press time the business was listed for sale, with hopes a new owner will carry on the popular spot.
For residents who built a routine around it, a plan B lives a few minutes away. Smith Mountain Lake Coffee House on Booker T. Washington Highway sources through Roadmap Coffee Works in Lexington and Boar's Head, and bakes its pastries in-house: filled croissants, cinnamon rolls, scones, quiche, plus gluten-free and keto options. Different footprint, different hours, but the same slot in your morning.
A second closure is worth naming for residents who track the wider region. Hickory Hill Vineyards wrapped up nearly 25 years in Bedford County as its owners retired in 2025. If your standing tasting stop was Hickory Hill, the practical replacements inside the Moneta radius are Ramulose Ridge, Brooks Mill Winery, and Wind Vineyards, with Fables & Feathers Winery a little further out.
The waterfront didn't go quiet. It reorganized.
Nothing above should suggest the water scene is fading. It has redistributed. A random June weekend in Moneta this year featured Women on the Water at Goodhue Boat Company in Blackwater, The Dock Wizards at Portside Grill and Bar, and SML Songwriters with Brady Seals at Mango's Bar & Grill, which is a fuller live-music sheet than most Virginia lake towns produce on any given Saturday.

Saturday night. Christian Fest at Wind Vineyards on August 16 if the dates line up, otherwise a patio table at Tiff's Lakefront or Bruno's Clubhouse Bistro. If your visitors want the classic lake photo, Drifter's still delivers it.
Sunday. A late brunch, then a Sip n' Sway afternoon at Ramulose Ridge if it falls on your weekend, or a slow loop through the wineries.
That itinerary would have looked different two years ago. The waterfront-first version has not gone away, but it is no longer the only version worth writing down.
