The holidays are in the air which means that Smith Mountain Lake has a variety of fun things to participate in. This week marks the annual Christmas Tree Lighting, the Moneta Christmas Parade and the Virginia Dare Flotilla for Toys Boat Parade.
On Thursday, December 4th the annual Christmas tree lighting and holiday concert will take place at the Westlake Towne Center from 5:30 to 8pm. This is a terrific event geared for all ages where you will get to see the tree lighting, listen to live music, enjoy light refreshments and get pictures taken with Santa Claus.
December 5th marks a fun Friday evening spent at the downtown Moneta Christmas parade which begins at 6pm. With a theme of “What Christmas means to me” you don’t want to miss out on the festivities. Santa Claus, rescue vehicles, classic cars and animals are all part of the parade. Plan to do some Christmas shopping with a variety of vendors on hand selling a variety of goodies.
Celebrate the holidays by boat in the 17th annual Virginia Dare Flotilla for Toys Boat Parade of Lights on Saturday, December 6th. If you have not witnessed a boat parade of lights, then you are in for a special treat. The boats depart from the Virginia Dare Marina at 7pm, and the parade route goes up to the Halesford Bridge and Smith Mountain Lake State Park before returning to the marina at 9pm. You can participate in the parade with your boat, or get tickets to ride on the Virginia Dare. As the name indicates, the Flotilla for Toys Boat Parade is also about receiving the donation of toys for local children in need. Such a great cause and terrific event that many enjoy year after year.
Join in on the fun with the various holiday festivities taking place around Smith Mountain Lake over the next few days.
