Celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, the antique boat show at Smith Mountain Lake is a can’t-miss event. Harvest Time of 1864
Booker T. Washington National Monument is the place to be for this family-friendly event that harkens visitors back to the mid-19th century. Smith Mountain Lake Wine Festival
LakeWatch Plantation is the place to be for the annual Smith Mountain Lake Wine Festival. Twenty-seven Virginia wineries will offer tastings, plus there are 85-plus artisan vendors, food trucks, live music and more. Two tips: 1) If possible, go on Sunday when the crowds are lighter and tasting lines are shorter. 2) Don’t forget your ID! Everyone gets carded regardless of age (seriously). Oktoberfest at Smith Mountain Lake
This awesome event includes a 5K Trail Race/Walk through Booker T. Washington National Monument in the morning followed by a German-themed festival in the afternoon, complete with authentic music, food and beer from Sunken City Brewing Company! Sponsored by The Willard Companies, the event is fun for the whole family (there’s even a children’s play area) and proceeds benefit the Smith Mountain Lake YMCA. Smith Mountain Lake Charity Home Tour
Take a stroll through eight spectacular waterfront homes and raise money for local charities at the SML Charity Home Tour. Now in its 25th year, this remarkable event has raised more than $4 million!
